The NDBourhood
Our Story

Built by a Neurodivergent Brain, for Neurodivergent Brains

The NDBourhood isn't a corporate project or a clinical tool. It's a deeply personal space born from lived experience — from the messy, beautiful, exhausting, brilliant reality of being neurodivergent.

Why I Built This

I'm neurodivergent. ADHD and highly gifted — a combination that means my brain moves at a thousand miles per hour, sees patterns everywhere, gets deeply passionate about things, and then sometimes can't remember to eat lunch or start the one task I've been thinking about for three hours.

Then my son came along — and everything clicked into a new kind of focus. He's autistic, ADHD, and highly gifted. Watching him navigate the world taught me more about neurodivergence than any textbook ever could. I saw his brilliance — the way he could hyperfocus on complex systems, the depth of his pattern recognition, the intensity of his curiosity. But I also saw the struggles — the sensory overload in a noisy classroom, the meltdowns that weren't tantrums but a nervous system screaming for relief, the frustration of a brain that works differently in a world designed for neurotypical minds.

I went looking for tools. Not clinical tools that treated us like case studies. Not apps that felt like they were designed by people who'd read about ADHD but never lived it. I wanted something warm. Something that understood that some days you have twelve spoons and some days you have two. Something that wouldn't judge you for needing a breathing exercise at 2 PM on a Tuesday because the fluorescent lights at the office finally became too much.

I couldn't find it. So I built it.

The NDBourhood — "The ND Neighbourhood" — is the space I wished existed when I was first figuring out my own brain. It's the toolkit I'm building alongside my son as we both learn what works for us. Every timer setting, every grounding exercise, every word in our screening tools comes from real experience, real research, and real care.

This isn't just a website. It's a neighbourhood. And you're welcome here — exactly as you are.

Our Mission

To create free, gentle, practical tools that help neurodivergent people — and the people who love them — navigate everyday life with more ease, more self-understanding, and more compassion. We believe that the right tools, designed by people who truly get it, can transform a hard day into a manageable one.

What We Stand For

Nothing About Us Without Us

Every tool on this site is built by a neurodivergent person, for neurodivergent people. We don't just research neurodivergence — we live it, every single day. Our tools are designed from the inside out.

Safe & Judgment-Free

No pathologizing language. No 'fixing' you. The NDBourhood is a space where your brain is not a problem to solve — it's a landscape to explore. We use affirming, strengths-based language throughout.

Gentle by Design

Our tools are built with sensory sensitivity in mind. Soft colors, calm animations, no jarring sounds, no overwhelming interfaces. Because the last thing an overwhelmed brain needs is an overwhelming tool.

For the Whole Family

Whether you're a neurodivergent adult discovering yourself, a teenager navigating school, or a parent trying to understand your child's world — there's something here for you. We know because we've been all of these.

Practical Over Perfect

We don't do 'just try harder.' We build tools that work with your brain, not against it. Flexible timers, visual trackers, gentle check-ins — practical support for real neurodivergent lives.

Always Free, Always Accessible

Neurodivergent support shouldn't have a paywall. Every tool, every assessment, every article on The NDBourhood is free. Your data stays in your browser. No accounts, no tracking, no strings attached.

A Note on Our Tools

The NDBourhood provides informational and self-help tools only. Our screening assessments are based on validated research instruments but are not diagnostic tools and cannot replace a professional evaluation. If you suspect you or your child may be neurodivergent, we encourage you to seek assessment from a qualified healthcare professional. Our tools can help you prepare for that conversation and track your experiences along the way.
